Over the last few months, we have been thinking about ways in which it can improve the way the Purple Warriors charity operates.
Working with a new Operating Structure created specifically to move the charity forward, we have prioritised 4 areas in which we can improve, they are:
-
How the charity plans and runs dragon boat events & training
-
How the charity communicates with you and everyone else
-
How the charity recruits new members and how it engages with like-minded organisations
-
How the charity manages membership & the welfare of its members
Each of these teams is led by a bona-fide full member and supported by other members.
We have also created a Digital Operations Team, who have been working alongside the teams above to design, develop and build a new website and create new communications, so that the Purple Warriors brand is consistently presented to the outside world.
The new website purplewarriors.org is now live! Go and check it out. Unlike before, the website supports recruitment of new folk and provides them with an opportunity to see events and register for them, it shares news stories, allows for donations and gives people some insight about dragon boating and how we use this sport as a charity.
Existing members will continue to be informed about upcoming events and changes to any events that are currently planned through the Spond App.
We also have exciting plans.

In 2025 we seek to rebuild the charity, attract new members and form partnerships with like-mined organisations. One decision that has been made is that we will not be attending the 2025 National Championships in Nottingham as Purple Warriors, but we do encourage you to race with your local clubs. Many of you who have attended the National Championships over the last few years, would have seen the number of actual ‘Purple Warriors’ in the boat continue to reduce, and in 2024 well over half the crew were drafted in from other clubs. In fact, the last time we had a full ‘Warriors’ boat was pre-covid. We want to change that!
-
In 2026 it is our objective to race at an international dragon boat event in Europe and take a full ‘Warriors’ crew to the GB dragon boat Nationals finals in Nottingham.
-
In 2027 we hope to construct an exhibition dragon boat event that coincides with the Invictus games being held in Birmingham.
Very soon, you will see social media posts promoting the charity and the events it will be holding in 2025. Please do sign up and come along AND please, please, please ‘Like’, ‘Share’ and reach out to people to encourage them to come along to an event. Family, partners, friends & dogs all welcome.
We are only a small charity, so we really do need your help with the above.
We are also planning to invite members of the GB dragon boat team to join us at each of our training events and further support our charity by becoming Associate Members.
As we said before, we are a small charity. No one gets paid to operate the charity and every assistance we get from you will make a difference.
If you feel you could support in one or more of these areas above and are as passionate about Purple Warriors as we are or if you have any question, please get in touch by completing the contact form at the bottom of this page. Alternatively, you can reach out in any of the following ways:
